Lisbon became an accessible destination for visitors, especially when the low-cost flights appeared in Bucharest.
I think we could list 20-30 reasons why you should visit Lisbon, but we will limit ourselved to 10 which will surely convince you to visit this beautiful city.
1. Good and unique infrastructure
It has an easy access to the city from the airport, the metro station being situated in the proximity of the airport. Therefore, after a 15-20 minutes metro ride you will reach the centre of the city.
Besides the metro, buses and trams link all areas of the city in an excellent way. The train represents a good way to reach places outside Lisbon.
Also, the yellow tram (no.28) should not be missed if you visit Lisbon, being symbol of the city.
2. There are many spots where you can admire the whole city
Also called Miradouros, the places where you can view the entire city can be found easily. The most famous are the following ones: Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara, Miradouro da Graça, Miradouro da Senhora do Monte Miradouro do Castelo de São Jorge which offer fantastic views at sunset. From these Miradouros, planes that land on the airport of Lisbon can be admired. This is a great spot for plane spotters.
3. Great food and beverages
We fell in love with their traditional cake called Pasteis de Belem. This dessert dates back to 1837 and the original recipe is still kept and it is realized in an ancient local place near the Jerónimos Monastery. Why would you change something that tastes very good? 🙂
For those willing to taste fish or seafood, Lisbon restaurant offer a variety of choices.
Regarding beverages, in Lisbon you can find various types of wine at very good prices in comparison to a similar quality wine from Paris for example.
4. Lisbon districts are really special
The most important districts in Lisbon are: Belem, Alfama si Bairro Alta si Baixa
Belem is remarkable through its superb architecture and it takes you back to the period of Navigators when you visit the Belem Tower, the Discoveries Monument, but also Jeronimos Monastery. The cherry on top is given by the Pasteis de Belem situated in the centre of this neighbourhood.Alfama is the most romantic part of the city in our opinion, due to the miradouros which offer spectacular views at sunset. São Jorge Castle represents the symbol of this district.Bairro Alta is the district which reveals the portuguese spirit because here you can find all the vibrant places of the city.
Baixa is considered the centre of Lisbon, being situated on the shore of Tejo river with its Arc de Triomphe and Praça do Comércio.
5. Prices are smaller in comparison with other Western European cities
Surely, prices are not getting close to the smaller prices from Bucharest or other Eastern European cities, but prices are way more smaller in comparison to the others Western cities from Europe.
If you visit the places where there are more residents and less tourits, you will be surprised by the smaller prices from these areas.
6. Weather is more friendly than in other european cities
While other european capitals are famous for their rainy weather (for example London or nordic countries), it can be said that Lisbon summers last longer.
Based on some studies, Lisbon has around 2800 hours of sun per year, situated on the third place on european level, after Valletta from Malta and Marseille from France.More details can be found here
Therefore, the chance to have a very good weather and enjoy the city are really high.
